On March 26, the middle school girls league began at Lake Country Fields. The varsity teams play on Monday nights, JV1 plays on Tuesdays and JV2 on Thursdays.

In the event of rainouts/cancellations;Monday games will roll over to Wednesday,Tuesday games roll over to Friday,Thursday games will roll over to Sunday afternoons. Decisions regarding game cancellations are normally made at 2pm and can possibly be made at game time. Cancellation notices are posted on the home page of the Lake Country website, and are also on the field conditions and cancellation section of the Lake Country voice mail system.

The Glendale Falcons Girls soccer teams traveled to their cross town rival Kickapoo Chiefs Wednesday evening.

In the varsity match up, Glendale’s Sarah Powell cleaned up a dropped ball by Kickapoo’s keeper, in the 18th minute, for the first goal of the game.  The Falcons scored again 23 minutes in when Alix Opfer headed a ball that bounced in the box, off the corner from Molly Brewer.  The third Glendale goal of the game came in the second half.  Molly Brewer cut across the top of the box, receiving a pass from Sara Powell.  She crushed the ball into the side netting, giving Glendale a 3-0 win.

Glendale coach Jeff Rogers,” I liked the way we knocked the ball around, and were making some nice runs.”  He also stated, “It’s early in the season, and I know (Kickapoo’s) Coach Hodge will have his girls ready the next time we play.”  The Glendale-Kickapoo return leg will be played May 9th at Cooper 1.

The win improves Glendale’s record to 2-0 on the season.  The loss is the first for Kickapoo, now 3-1 on the season.

Kickapoo’s next match will be an away game against Springfield Catholic. March 30th at Springfield Catholic’s field.  Glendale plays host to Joplin on April 3rd at Cooper 3.

The JV match up saw the Falcons with a victory 1-0 over the Chiefs.  Olivia Wolfram from Glendale scored with an assist from McKenzie Robbins.

Ussoccer.com reports that the U-23 Men’s National Team will miss out on the 2012 London Olympics after being eliminated from CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying in heartbreaking fashion following a 3-3 tie with El Salvador on Monday night.

With only four points from three Group A games, the U.S. finished in third place and missed out on the opportunity to play in the all-important semifinals that will qualify two CONCACAF teams to the Olympics. This was the second time the U.S. has missed out on the Olympics since 1976, after having failed to qualify for the 2004 Games in Athens. (The U.S. qualified in 1980, but did not compete due to a boycott of the Moscow games.)

With boys traveling from places such as Texas, Colorado, and right here in Springfield, Springfield Demize wrapped up their PDL team tryouts for the upcoming 2012 season.

Coach Armen Tonianse is looking forward to the upcoming season. He will be releasing the new team roster in the upcoming days. Coach Tonianse indicated that there will be an exhibition game  for the Springfield Demize PDL Team on Saturday April 21, 6pm, at Cooper stadium.

Sportingkc.com reports that:Sporting Kansas City kept their perfect start to the 2012 season intact and handed FC Dallas their first loss with a 2-1 win on Sunday at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park, courtesy of Kei Kamara’s game-winning goal in the 88th minute. With the win, Sporting Kansas City moves to 3-0-0 this year and into sole possession of first place in the Eastern Conference.

Sporting Kansas City will now return to the road for their next MLS match, traveling to take on Chivas USA on Sunday, March 31 at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
