Willard Celebrates their Class 2 District 11Championship win.

With the high school boy’s soccer district championships complete, area teams move onward and upward in the championship brackets, towards the final four in Kansas City. These championship brackets are divided by Class 1,2,and 3, and can be found on MSHSAA.org. The next round of soccer games start again on Tuesday the 6th.

Class 1

Crocker(14-10)will play Sacred Heart(16-9) on 11/06/12,6pm, at the Cloverdell Soccer Park in Sedalia.

Springfield Catholic(23-4) will play Monett(13-12) on 11/06/12,6pm, at the Monett South Soccer Fields.

Class 2

Rolla(23-4) will take on St Francis(4-14) on 11/06/12, 6pm, in Rolla at the Kiwanis Soccer Fields.

Willard(15-9) plays Carthage(19-8) on 11/06/12,6pm, at the Fair Acres Soccer Complex in Carthage.

Class 3

Jefferson City(19-8) takes on Rockbridge(19-7-1) 11/06/12,6pm at the 179 Soccer Park in Jeff City.

Glendale(16-6) takes on Kickapoo(21-3)11/06/12 in Springfield

MYSA Passes Cross Border Agreement

On Saturday, June 30th, the MYSA Board of Directors approved the cross-border agreement with the following states:  Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Illinois as stated on mysa.org.

The agreement will allow for Missouri residents to registrer directly for teams that are based in other states.  For example, an Illinois resident will now be able to register directly on a Missouri team.  A Missouri resident will also be able to go and register directly with a Kansas team.  Previously players were required to first get a release from their home state before they could go and register with a team in another state.  The states involved in this agreement hope that this piece of legislation will reduce the amount of “red tape” a player must go through in order to play the game of soccer.

This is just another example of the changing landscape of youth soccer in Springifled and across the nation.

As these teams prepare for the next stage of the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series, we wish them all, good luck in the Region 2 tournament in Saginaw, MI., June 23-27.  Please represent the Missouri Youth Soccer Association and your respective clubs with pride, dignity and positive sporting behavior.  Play hard!  Play well! Bring home some titles and bragging rights to the Show-Me State.

 

I wish to extend great thanks and appreciation to Lake Country Soccer for an outstanding job in hosting this year’s tournament.  It was the goal of LCS to “raise the bar” for this event and the organization executed some activities, the likes of never before seen or experienced for a Missouri State Cup tournament.  Field conditions were outstanding.  Recovery and rescheduling efforts during the weather event on Monday were most efficient in getting games back on schedule.  I also want to thank those teams which were affected by the storms, and returned home early, for your understanding through a seemingly, reoccurring event these past three state cu p tournaments.  The state board will discuss possible prorated refunds at our June 30 board of directors meeting.

 

I would like to thank all of the event sponsors and supporting businesses that helped make this year’s event, very successful.  The list is long, so at the expense of possibly omitting one or more; please accept this recognition for all that helped make this event successful and memorable. 

 

The MYSA staff and board members who attended were above par in executing the various aspects of tournament operations and management.  Without your ground support, event management would have been a tremendous challenge.  On-site board support provided by Robyn Gross (secretary); Dennis St. John (Eastern District Alternate Commissioner); Christy Philpot (Southern District Commissioner) and Dr. Sam (Southern District Alternate Commissioner) went a long way for MYSA and for LCS staff and volunteers.  Jake Griesenaur (and wife Shannon) did an outstanding job in keeping things moving.  Kathy Arnold was extremely helpful on Day 1 and Day 2 (and husband M ark) assisting with team check-in and attending to support staff throughout the weekend.

 

Lake Country Soccer’s board, staff and volunteers were exceptional in ensuring the facility was prepared for play and providing additional customer service to all of the guests on site which included courtesy shuttles for the duration of the event.  Special recognition goes to Mr. Bill Garoutte, LCS BOD president for his tireless hours from start to finish and the added elements he brought to the event, which made this year’s tournament extra special: from the opening ceremony, to the contact with the on-site guests to helping get through the weather event and any other areas which needed his attention. 

 

Jeff Kollmeyer (State Youth Referee Administrator) and his referee administrative staff are to be commended for their work throughout the event.  The one aspect of competitive sports is that of the officials and the referee administrative team: the most thankless aspect of tournament operations that must be recognized for the importance of the service these men and women provide to the event and to the game; in spite of or regardless of the outcome of the game.  

 

With that said, “thank you all!”, and thank you to all of the participating teams for making 2012 a very successful state cup tournament.  We look forward to seeing your teams in the 2013 tournament, that begins this fall, with the U15 – U18 girls.

Just a bit short in the State Cup Final

Springfield Soccer Club’s u13 boys had an incredible week in the 2012 Missouri State Cup.  They finished pool play undefeated with 2 wins and a tie.  In their semi final match-up against Kopling Kicks (St. Louis), an early lead in the first half at 3-0, allowed Coach Sorlie to slow the pace of play, saving the boys for the final.

The championship match-up saw SSC paired against St Louis Scott Gallagher’s Elite team.  Springfield currently has two boys teams in the U13 age group, while SLSG currently lists 12 seperate teams at U13.  The teams have had two prior meetings in the last nine months.  Last fall SLSG Elite won 3-2.  In March of this year, Elite was the much stronger opponent as they won 5-0 in St Louis.  The first half of yesterday’s championship game, saw Springfield lead the game with ball control near an estimated 70%, but ending without a goal.  During play in the second half, both team’s played well, controlling the game at times.  After seventy minutes of play, the game remained tied 0-0.

As overtime began, SLSG seemed  to come out with a new found level of play.  Not long into the first ten minute overtime period, an Elite forward cut across the top of the box, delivering a strike that carried just over the top of the outstretched arms of the Springfield goalie, dropping just under the crossbar.  The second overtime period saw Springfield with a few shots on goal, however none ended up in the back of the net. The final score of SLSG 1, Springfield 0.

It marks the end of a great season for Springfield.  They finished in fourth place of the highest u13 division in Heartland League play in Kansas City.  During that time, the team finished with 19 goals for, and 9 goals against, and a final record of 4-2-2.  The five games of State Cup yielded 10 goals, while allowing only five.  This is definitely a team that has the potential for many great performances over the next five years of youth club soccer.  Stay tuned….

State Cup T shirts are Available for Pre-Order

Ten days and counting until State Cup come to Lake Country Soccer Fields in Springfield. Shirts for the 2012 Missouri State Cup are now available online for pre-order.  If you pre-order, MYSA states that you’ll have your shirt before this year’s event.  The shirts come in four different colors and are fully-customizable with your name, jersey number, and club name.
